| Councilman Steve Cain is currently
a member of the Batesburg-Leesville Town Council. This is his third
year of his first term on council. For more than a decade Steve has
advocated for working families and individuals in South Carolina and
throughout the country. Through work and volunteerism, Steve has served
as a community activist, a consumer advocate, and an educator. Steve
has brought this knowledge and experience to his approach to public
service on town council.
“I have worked across the aisles with republicans and democrats
on tough issues for the good of working families. Through these efforts,
I have come to firmly believe that there is not a nickel’s worth
of a difference between a republican and a democrat. You have to judge
people individually. And I feel the same way about race and gender---I
judge people according to the content of their character and that’s
the way I prefer that people treat me.” …says Councilman
Cain.
Our Community and our state need a fresh mind, a new vision, and a new
approach to addressing issues that improve South Carolina communities
and make SC a better place to live, work and play. Together we can make
our state a first-class collage of communities confident and prepared
for the increasingly global 21st century. We will begin to create this
collage by providing leadership towards a new vision for economic development,
education, and tax reform.
First, we need to establish a solid infrastructure (hardware) and an
educated population combined with efficient, business-friendly officials
(software)--- these are the keys to attract new businesses and investments
with high-tech, high-paying jobs.
Then, we have to address improving education in South Carolina by putting
educational choices back where they belong: In the hands of families.
Competition and accountability will ultimately elevate the quality of
education delivered in our state.
Finally, we have to reduce the tax burden for working South Carolinians.
It’s time for property owners to actually own their homes! We
have to transition from property taxes and begin to work together diligently---republicans
and democrats---to reduce the tax burdens on citizens across the board
in a fair and equitable manner.
